"Iatrogenic"
Iatorgenic means adverse effects or complications
caused by or resulting from medical treatment or
advice.

(i-ă´tro-jen´ik)
literally, brought forth by a healer, resulting from the activity of physicians; said of any
adverse condition in a patient resulting from
treatment by a physician or surgeon.
Examples of this is:
-
complications from surgery
-
illness or death after injection of an
inappropriate solution or of an appropriate
solution in an inappropriate manner
-
a disorder induced by the treatment itself such as
neuropathy (or nerve damage) caused by chemotherapy
and/or radiation, and other conditions such as nausea,
anemia, etc,
-
drug interactions - the doctor and
pharmacist fails to check for all medications a
patient is taking and prescribe new ones that
interact or decrease the intended therapeutic
effect
-
antibiotic resistance to bacteria
caused by over prescribing antibiotics.
