Joint Pain & Stiffness, what causes it and what you can do

joint painMost people think of arthritis when they think of joint pain and stiffness, but there are many reasons for these joint problems.

There are joint problems that are from muscle and ligament related issues. A torn ligament or the cartilage ring that surrounds your knee can be injured.

Joint pain can occur because of injury, including fractures, or chronic old injuries.

Joint pain & stiffness can also occur because of infection, usually caused by bacteria or viruses.

Gout comes from crystals of uric acid which gets lodged in the joint like slivers of glass. It causes intense pain in attacks, usually but not always confined to the big toe.

A condition frequently confused with arthritis is bursitis. It involves pain around the joint, rather than the joint itself. Bursitis causes discomfort, stiffness, tenderness, and pain in the joint area when one or more of the bursa — small, fluid-filled sacs near the joints are troublesome due to excessive movement, pressure, or trauma

Fibromyalgia is a little-understood condition that can cause stiffness and pain around the joints, as well as overall aching and fatigue.

One thing about joint stiffness is that it might be due to not drinking enough water and being dehydrated.
